The 2017 Humanitarian of the Year

Recently, Robyn ‘Rihanna’ Fenty turned 29 years old as recent as this past Monday, February 20th. In years past, we’ve watched her travel on yachts for her birthday and just for fun living the good life. She’s known for having a good time! Whether it’s island hopping or sipping from a flask at the 2017 Grammy Awards.  And we love her for that. Rihanna is also known for her internationally-known catalog of music, her fashion sense and kick-ass attitude. A little known fact about her is that beyond all that she’s a philanthropist she financially supporting healthcare and education in the Caribbean 🇧🇧 as well as other developing countries. I’ve seen Rihanna get little to no recognition for that.

According to the Harvard Foundation Director, S. Allen Counter

Rihanna has charitably built a state-of- the-art center for oncology and nuclear medicine to diagnose and treat breast cancer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados.

as well as creating a scholarship program

a multiyear campaign that will provide children with access to education in over 60 developing countries, giving priority to girls and those affected by lack of access to education in the world today.

The Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations will award her with the Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award at the ceremony this Tuesday, February 28, 2017.  The ceremony is take place on Harvard University’s campus in Sanders theatre.

Congratulations are in order for Rihanna!! We love seeing celebrities use their wealth for good causes such as these. Other greats who’ve received this same award are James Earl Jones and Arthur Ashe.
